NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service

Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

Pharmacy TechnicianHigher Level

Band 5, 37.5 hours/week, Permanent (1 post)

£30,229 - £37,664

(with public holidays and weekend commitments)

NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. We have strategic partnerships with local Universities, Local Authorities and our four Integration Joint Boards. We serve a population of 900,000, providing a range of primary, community based and acute hospital services. We also provide regional and national services across a range of clinical specialties.

The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services. We are focussed on creating an environment where each person in the team has the opportunity to flourish, develop and make best use of their skills.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic technician to join the established pharmacy team based at PAEP, Lauriston Building and Chalmers Centre. The successful candidate will support technical pharmacy services within HIV, Dermatology and Ophthalmology services and work closely with respective multidisciplinary teams. We anticipate an opportunity for career progression as a new post, Operational Pharmacy Team Lead, will be created to supervise the delivery of technical pharmacy service in a new single pharmacy premise in Lauriston Building.

We are looking for a Pharmacy Technician from either primary or secondary care background, who is passionate about delivering high quality patient centred care and demonstrates NHS Lothian core values. Excellent inter-personal skills are essential with the ability to work with an extensive multidisciplinary team and building professional relationships.

Candidates must be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), have a Pharmacy Dispensary Checking Technician (PDCT) National Qualification or equivalent, HNC in Pharmacy Services Development and Management or equivalent qualification or equivalent relevant experience. If the successful candidate does not hold the HNC or equivalent qualification they will be expected to engage in completing the appropriate post-registration qualification in post.

You will be required to participate in the weekend, late night and public holiday service rota at RIE.
