2 Assistant Highway Officers
We are looking
for 2 individuals to join our Highways Service as Assistant Highway’s Officers.


The successful
candidates will be based in one of our 7 area depots across North Yorkshire (Boroughbridge,
Skipton, Thirsk, Kirby Misperton, Whitby, Selby or Richmond), the location is to be
agreed with the successful candidates and in the past this has been the depot nearest the candidates home address.


The core focus of this job is to assist the local Highway Operations Team with front line delivery of the highway services especially
with regard to the safety of the highway network and compliance with the Council's duties under the Highways Act 1980. Your main duties will include assisting with safety inspections, supervision
of maintenance and improvement works along with customer complaints/liaison.

A clean
driving license, good English, numerical and IT skills are key elements to
being successful in this role.

For many local people the Assistant Highway Officer is
the key point of contact for them to access the service and as such you should
be personable and have good communication and customer care skills.

The role involves a significant proportion of work
carried out remotely using the highways vehicle as a mobile workstation so time
management and the ability to work independently in addition to being a team
player is essential.

A background with highway construction/civil engineering
experience would be advantageous but not essential. Appropriate training will
be provided for the right candidate dependent on the level of previous
knowledge and experience you bring with you to the role.
