The Opportunity:
We are looking for an Underwriter to join our Accident & Health team at QBE Re in London. This is an exciting opportunity to support the growth of this diverse portfolio which includes Treaty, Direct & Facultative, Sports and International Medical Expenses.
With hybrid working and excellent benefits you will be working alongside colleagues in a supportive and inclusive environment. We are looking for an insurance professional who is looking to either transfer into, or further their career in reinsurance.
Your new role:
  • Be aware of the annual business plan for the portfolio and its context to be able to make decisions appropriately.
  • Negotiating rates, terms and conditions for existing and new business managing production and issue of contract certainty documentation ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations and guidelines.
  • Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximise influence and achieve business objectives.
  • Participate in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress toward business objectives
  • Including management of DUA Binder activity, primary and excess layers and contribute to the aggregate management and peer review processes to encourage and develop excellence
About you:
  • Understanding of class specific underwriting and awareness of reinsurance programme specifically within Personal Accident
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport and manage external stakeholder relationships
  • knowledge and Expected Profitability Analysis (EPA)
  • Understanding of relevant market conditions
  • Good technical knowledge across Microsoft office, specifically Excel with a high level of comfort working with large data-sets, pivot tables and v-look-ups
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Good knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements (specific reference to FSA/Lloyds regulation)
