An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Administration & Staffing Manager to join the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London.

Reporting to the Department Operations Manager (DOM) you will be responsible for the coordination and management of a wide variety of tasks and will support all of the Department’s academics, researchers, teaching, and administrative and technical support staff in all HR and staffing matters.

Duties and responsibilities

You will work closely with central and faculty HR teams to ensure all processes are appropriately managed and maintained strictly in accordance with College policies, and will review, monitor and report regularly on staffing matters and requirements within the Department.

You will be responsible for line management of the Department’s administration team, ensuring support for their learning and development and successful delivery of the day-to-day administration service provided to Academic staff and their research groups.  You will ensure the provision of an effective and comprehensive service of care and support for all staff and postdoctoral research staff in particular.

You will participate and provide leadership on a number of Departmental committees in areas, including Rewards & Recognition, Equality, Diversity & Culture, Postdoctoral Staff and Awards and will take an active role in supporting the DOM to deliver a world-class administration service across the wider department administrative function.

Essential requirements

Educated to degree level or equivalent, you will be highly motivated with excellent organisational skills and have the ability to interact confidently and personably with staff, visitors and students at all levels. You will be an experienced people manager and be able to demonstrate a commitment to the ongoing professional development of your team.  You will have the ability to prioritise workloads and use your initiative to seek out, analyse and solve problems. The post demands commitment, discretion and a confident manner, and the ability to work autonomously and flexibly, especially when under pressure, so excellent organisational and communication skills are essential.

Previous experience of HR administration in a Higher Education environment (or similar) is essential.  The post is an ideal opportunity for existing HR and Administrative professionals wanting to apply their knowledge and skills in a thriving and dynamic world-class academic department.
