Job description

Are you a caring and motivated Administrator based in the B&NES area? 

We are looking for an Administrator - Inpatients Unit Clerk to join our busy community hospital inpatient units. Further details regarding scheduling can be discussed during the interview stage.

You will join a team who are focused on delivering impeccable administration duties to our staff and service users to really make our service users and staff feel the difference. The post holder will provide a full confidential administration service to the inpatient units using their own initiative and without direct supervision. 

You will contribute to a team environment, remain calm under pressure and be sympathetic with patients, relatives and other healthcare staff to help ensure a proficient service for both patients and clinicians

You will work flexibly to meet the needs of the service; prioritising their workload at all times, managing unpredictable situations, using reason, intellect and professional questioning seeking senior advice where necessary.

Main ResponsibilitiesAs an Administrator you will:


Greet all patients and visitors to the inpatient units and refer immediately to the most appropriate member of staff. 
Be confident in using Microsoft 365 and in-house computer systems. 
Undertake typing of inpatient unit’s correspondence ensuring it is signed off before distributing promptly. 
Conduct all clerical duties associated with the admission and discharge of patients. 
Maintain effective working relationships with colleagues within the organisation. 
Filter all calls to the appropriate member of staff or take a message

The Ideal CandidateThe essential qualities we are looking for in our applicants are:


Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate with a range of people on a day to day basis.
Administrative experience in a busy, customer facing environment.
Flexible approach to work.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to work as part of a team.
Good organisational skills.
Ability to manage time and work under pressure in a changing environment
Confident using IT systems and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel.


It would be desirable if you have NHS Health or Social Care experience but full training will be provided.
