These opportunities are part of the Surrey County Council Summer Work Experience Programme which is taking place for one week in July 2024! 

You will spend your first day with other Work Experience students at our head office in Reigate learning about the council, the services we run and the variety of careers in local government. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be with your placement team. Your last day everyone will come back together at Woodhatch Place to bring together everything that they have learnt during the week! 

We have the following placements on offer:

Runnymede Locality Team (placements are available both week commencing 1st and 8th July)

Runnymede Locality Team is based in Addlestone High Street, which has a number of shops and nearby train station as well as regular buses passing through.

We are a team of around 40 staff, made up of Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and support staff. We are a busy team working with our residents and stake holders to provide safe and effective services. As a Work Experience employee you would be given a 'taster' of what working in Adult Social Care is like and the opportunities it offers, not only in our team but the wider family within Surrey County Council.

Location: Runnymede Locality Team, Station Road, Addlestone, KT15 2AH

Learning Disability and Autism Engagement Team (placement is available week commencing 1st July)

We are part of the Information and Engagement Team in Adult Social Care. We are all about making sure that people with a learning disability and autistic people have their say through running events and meetings, connecting people and providing advice about accessible information. We also have webpages that provide information about getting involved as well as finding out important information. Within our team we have a digital assistant, senior business support assistant and an engagement and partnership officer and we work closely with the Disabilities Commissioning Team so you would have an opportunity to gain insight into all these roles.

Location: Woodhatch Place, Cockshot Hill, Reigate RH2 8EF

Reigate & Banstead Locality Team (placements are available both week commencing 1st and 8th July) 

We are excited to offer you the opportunity to discover the world of Occupational Therapy. As one of the busiest teams in Surrey, the Reigate and Banstead Locality Team has a countywide reputation for their Innovative approach to service provision. By thinking outside the box, the team actively seek to 'Be the change you wish to see in the World'. This approach resulted in the development and implementation of the 5 Steps Programme which was published twice in the national OT News Magazine (May 2020, May 2021). The team's hard work, creativity and courage resulted in the OT Team being shortlisted for the 2021 LGC Awards. 

In addition to Innovation, the Team has a reputation for their investment in new staff, students, apprentices and colleagues from other services. You will be warmly welcomed and supported to understand the role of OT in Adult Social Care, thereby enabling you to consider this practical profession as a potential career pathway. We are excited to meet you and learn from you. We want to hear your thoughts, and have a conversation, which would leave us both richer than before we started.

Epsom & Ewell Locality Team (placements are available both week commencing 1st and 8th July)

Our Team provides social care support to people in Epsom and Ewell and people being discharged from Epsom Hospital and St Hellier hospital who live in Surrey. As part of the Work Experience they will shadow all the different parts of the team including Admin, Duty, Safeguarding, Assessments, Reviews, This will involve going out on visits, visiting people on the ward, talking to different team members, listening in to phone calls and will involve some tasks like scanning, dealing with the post and emails.

Location: Fairmount House, Bull Hill, Leatherhead KT22 7AH

Epsom General Hospital Team (placements are available both week commencing 1st and 8th July)

Our Team provides social care support to people in Epsom and Ewell and people being discharged from Epsom Hospital and St Hellier hospital who live in Surrey. As part of the Work Experience they will shadow all the different parts of the team including Admin, Duty, Safeguarding, Assessments, Reviews, This will involve going out on visits, visiting people on the ward, talking to different team members, listening in to phone calls and will involve some tasks like scanning, dealing with the post and emails.

The Adults Academy (placement is available week commencing 1st July)

In the Adult Social Care Academy we help staff become occupational therapists, social workers and help train and develop all adult social care staff. In this team we work directly alongside qualified social work and occupational therapists and other social care staff who support vulnerable residents in Surrey!

Location: Quadrant Court, 35 Guildford Road, Woking GU22 7QQ

The Workforce Strategy & Business Support Team (placements are available both week commencing 1st and 8th July)

The Workforce Team manages a range of business support, staffing, attraction, recruitment, reporting and workforce activities across the Adults Wellbeing and Health Partnerships Directorate, for and on behalf of our frontline managers. This means our crucial activities have a direct impact on making a difference to the residents of Surrey. If you are interested in learning more about the business support function, relating to workforce and organisational management then this is the placement for you!

Location: Guildford Borough Council, Millmead House, Guildford GU2 4BB
