Alder Hey Children’s Hospital has a busy Emergency Department which is also a major trauma centre and has an onsite urgent treatment centre. In addition there is a 12 bed paediatric assessment centre (PAU) / emergency decision unit (EDU).  Work is currently underway for a new which is due to open in 2025. ACPs will work in all areas of the department.

80% clinical and 20% service and personal development. ACPs have protected teaching time and regular team meetings. The department also has daily teaching with twice weekly simulations. Additionally the department is able to support funding for RCEM accreditation.

Work autonomously at an Advanced Clinical practice level, providing direct delivery of care that utilises Advanced Clinical assessment and reasoning skills to deliver safe and effective care that additionally enhances positive outcomes and experiences for infants, children, and young people within the Trust.

Work in partnership with other professionals, families, and carers in managing the care of infants, children, and young people within the Trust.

Demonstrate a high degree of autonomy in decision making skills in acute, complex, and uncertain situations whilst holding accountability for decisions made within the service and in partnership with other professionals.

Essential requirements –

This post is open to candidates with a masters in advance practice form a nursing or AHP background. Candidates with an adult qualification who have significant experience in paediatrics will be considered. Please see job description for full person specification.

Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care to over 275,000 children and young people each year.  Alder Hey has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.
