Grade 8- £46,041-£50,031pa

To demonstrably improve educational outcomes, and post-18 opportunities, for children and young people in Havering who are open to the Youth Justice Service and/or Children in our Care aged 16 to 18 years old. To manage complex cases providing professional advice to teachers, schools, parents and professionals as required, and monitor and improve the quality of education planning and actively work with regards to these children. This will include ensuring high quality Personal Education Plans (PEPs) are in place for all relevant children up to the end of year 13

  • Lead on and take responsibility for PEPS and specific projects related to engaging, motivating and providing educational opportunities for children open to the Youth Justice Service and Children in Care aged 16 to 18 years old.
  • To develop and deliver the effective delivery of specific events and training programmes for key stakeholders i.e. social workers, senior school staff, school governors, Designated Teachers, foster carers as required in pursuit of team, Service and Council objectives.
  • To be proactive in preventing disengagement, raising attendance and attainment and removing barriers to the achievement of children within Youth Justice and Childrens’ Social Care.
  • To take individual responsibility for planning, delivering and evaluating specific projects or service areas on behalf of the Virtual School e.g. educational trips, further/higher education events, work experience, support for asylum seekers, as directed by the Head teacher.
  • To take on delegated responsibility for the development, arranging, monitoring and evaluation of individual support packages.
  • To be an essential link, working in partnership with and acting as a point of contact/liaison/advice for young people, school/college/training and Council staff amongst others as required.
  • To ensure all services offered are responsive to the needs of users taking particular account of any needs arising out of their religion, culture, language, gender, sexual orientation and disability.
  • To identify and consider key issues or barriers to engagement for our young people, research options and horizon scan for national policy changes and good practice.
  • To work as a full member of the Virtual School team; contributing to all aspects of the work, attending team meetings and sharing good practice and acting as a champion for children open to the Virtual School across all forums.
  • To take part in appropriate staff development programmes as necessary, keeping up-to-date with relevant local and national developments in legislation, and by taking personal responsibility for own personal development and striving to improve levels of knowledge and good practice.
  • To record own work and interventions on Social Care and Virtual School databases accurately and in a timely fashion, and provide reports on this data as required.
  • To travel, where necessary, outside of the borough in order to meet service user's needs
