The Role:

 

Working with a team of technical experts that are accountable for the shaping of the future airspace and Air Traffic Management (ATM) , operating environment to ensure that it meets international requirements and the objectives of the Future Airspace Strategy. Responsible for managing the successful delivery of several key high-profile projects and programmes within the Airspace Modernisation Delivery Team.  You will be working closely with the Managers and Principals from across Airspace, Airspace, Air Traffic Management & Aerodromes (AAA) and Safety and Airspace Regulation Group (SARG) to ensure that projects and programmes are delivered effectively. You will be providing effective stakeholder management, planning, project governance, risk, issue, and dependency management, whilst also working within the organisation’s standard governance and processes.

 

 

Core Accountabilities

 

  • Ensure projects and programmes are well defined, with clear outcomes that are understood by key stakeholders.
  • Ensure any commercial arrangements put in place are appropriately scoped, driving both value for money and flexibility.
  • Management of resource both project focused and SMEs to ensure all projects and programmes have the appropriate focused resources.
  • Ensure risk and issues are effectively and proactively escalated, through appropriate governance forums, with clear mitigation options, where required.
  • Ensure arrangements across the portfolio are effective and reviewed regularly.
  • Establish ways of working, managing, motivating, coaching and mentoring team members both within direct team and wider to increase delivery capability in the organisation 
  • Lead, support and manage team of Project Delivery Specialists

 

 

About You:

 

The ability to work effectively with multi-discipline groups in a variety of structures, in many cases it will be necessary to negotiate effectively to deliver the desired outcome. You will have a high level of intuition, diplomacy, and tact, as some of the areas covered will be at the cutting edge of issues, so it will be necessary to be innovative and inventive.

 

Essential Skills:

 

  • Effective use of key project management tools such as plans, RAID logs, stakeholder maps and other governance documentation.
  • Experience in change programmes and project portfolio environments, minimum 5 years
  • Planning skills and ability to create and manage complex programme plans.
  • Experienced and capable in managing relationships with stakeholders up to Senior Manager level both internally and externally.
  • Good leadership, management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Focused on results and delivery, with ability to work under pressure with good problem-solving skills.
  • Strong public sector procurement experience
  • Develop constructive relationships, with effective communication skills both written and oral in engaging with contacts at all levels across internal and External Stakeholder groups.
  •  Confidence to tackle unknown situations and demonstrate inventive and innovative solutions.
  • Able to constructively challenge current thinking, present options in a way that facilitates decision making. 
  • Organised, thorough, demonstrating flexibility and desire to work independently, within a team and cross departmentally.
  • Have experience of MS Office packages specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.

 

 

Desirable:

 

  • A good knowledge of the CAA and UK aviation industry supported by an understanding of key legislative factors influencing and determining the CAA’s role as an airspace regulator, such as the Civil Aviation Act, Air Navigation Order, Rules of the Air Regulations and the appropriate MAA Regulatory Publications.
  • Have knowledge of the UK Airspace Modernisation Strategy (AMS)
