Salary:  £49,007 to £56,000 dependant on experience, Market Related Supplement (MRS) value and restrictions will be discussed with candidates at interview stage

Contract Type:  Permanent – Full time

The Role

 

  • Notifying both Civilian and Military Unusual Aerial Activities (UAA) to the wider aviation community, when needed. 
  • To provide support to Sponsors to enable integration of complex airspace activities into UK airspace.
  • Coordinating with various stakeholders
  • To provide support for the integration of Remotely Piloted Air Systems into UK Airspace
  • To provide oversight of Special Flight Notification process
  • To support Royal Flight procedures, including the establishment of Controlled Airspace, Royal Low-Level Corridors, and support ORA in the establishment of Restricted Airspace to facilitate Royal Flights
  • Issuing permission and Exemptions from the ANO article 163 for the release of balloons
  • To provide regulatory and policy oversight of UK airspace management arrangements
  • To develop, establish and implement strategies and policies for the safe and efficient operation of UK airspace
  • To support the SARG Airspace responsibilities for the establishment of emergency restrictions of flying
  • To perform the role of Project Officer in respect of the regulatory approval of temporary airspace change proposals in accordance with the Airspace Charter.
  • To undertake additional tasks as allocated by the Principal Airspace Regulators for Airspace Utlisation and/or Manager Airspace Regulation.

 

About You

 

Minimum essential requirements for the role:

  • Have been either an Air Traffic Controller, civil/military aircrew, or an equivalent level of technical expertise,
  • Be able to rapidly establish personal credibility with technical specialists and develop constructive relationships, with effective communication skills both written and oral in engaging with contacts at all levels throughout the CAA and externally.
  • Have high levels of commitment, reliability, and flexibility, and be an excellent team worker with sound interpersonal skills.
  • Be innovative and able to develop rapid novel solutions, based on expert knowledge and detailed understanding of airspace and aviation law principles.
  • Can work with minimum supervision, be pro-active and possess strong time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills and good negotiating skills. 
  • Possess good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplined team.
  • Experience of MS Office packages specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good understanding of Aeronautical Information products and policies.

 

Desirable skills for the role:

  • Knowledge of the CAA and UK aviation industry supported by an understanding of key legislative factors influencing and determining the CAA’s role as an Airspace Regulator e.g. the Civil Aviation Act, Air Navigation Order, Rules of the Air Regulations and the appropriate MAA Regulatory Publications.
  • Awareness of national and international ATM regulatory bodies and their interaction. 
  • An understanding of the environmental impact of aviation and strategies and actions to mitigate these.
  • Experience of Mapping products to create and 3 dimensional shapes and apply context to these shapes to determine potential impacts.
