Job description

We are working in partnership with an inclusive Alternative Provision provider, to appoint an Alternative Provision Tutor, who is available to start work from April 2023.

The directors and leaders of the provision promote a culture where children are happy, believe that they can succeed, take responsibility for their learning, set targets for their own achievement, and develop as independent learners.

In brief, the role will involve delivering vital tuition to KS3 and KS4 pupils on a one-to-one basis either in the pupils’ home or at a local community-base i.e., community centre or library. The post is ideal for a qualified and/or experienced tutor with an active interest in SEMH and SEN.

Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver high-quality lessons that are tailored to the individual needs of students but remain in line with the national curriculum.
• Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special educational needs, in partnership with your line manager, the local authority and teachers at the pupils’ assigned school.
• Provide pastoral support to students and establish positive relationships with families and external agencies.
• Monitor and evaluate student progress and use assessment data to inform future teaching and support.

Requirements of the role:
• A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS or equivalent) is advantageous, but equivalent UK-based teaching experience is essential.
• Experience of working with students who have special educational needs or challenging behaviour is desirable.
• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills are essential.
• A commitment to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children and young people is paramount.

Hours of work can be flexible, although typical tuition bookings are a minimum of 3 hours per student. Your timetable could be made up of 2-3 pupils per day, Monday to Friday if you are looking for 6+ hours per day.

Contact Sophie Binns at Reed Education (Cambridge Office), to discuss the post further and what your typical week could look like.
