Job description

Alumni and Benefactor Relations Manager

Grade 6 scale, currently £32,332 - £38,205 p.a., depending on experience.

St John’s College, Oxford

This role is an exceptional opportunity to build on recent success and momentum in alumni relations and donor engagement at St John’s College, joining a friendly team at a significant point in the College’s evolution.

Founded in 1555 St John’s College is one of the older Oxford colleges and today is regarded as being one of the most progressive and diverse and, in particular, is recognised for its innovative and pioneering Inspire access and outreach programmes (already amongst the very best in Oxford).  The College has recently undertaken a comprehensive ‘Size and Shape’ review, examining what kind of college it wishes to be in not only five years’ time but in fifty.  Projects and aspirations which are emerging include: transforming the student support we offer at both the undergraduate and graduate level, to ensure they remain exceptional, and unique capital projects which make up a Masterplan for an unusually large college in central Oxford.

Relationships with alumni, donors and friends of St John’s are at the heart of our development activity.  The post-holder will have responsibility for delivering events, print and email communications to its Alumni and supporter community, managing the College’s donor recognition and stewardship programme, creating opportunities for student engagement with Alumni and supporter activities and acting as a point of contact for the College’s alumni.

The post-holder currently has direct management responsibility for an extremely able Development and Alumni Relations Assistant, who provides administration in all aspects of the Alumni House guest rooms and event registration replies.

We are looking for a conscientious, creative and helpful colleague who will be able to take on a vital role, helping St John’s cultivate relationships that will build and strengthen connections between the College and its community of alumni, friends, students and donors.

Beyond excellent technical abilities or the potential to acquire them, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines are essential.  Most of all, we are looking for a colleague who will enjoy working with us so we will consider candidates with aptitude and potential for development, for which the salary offered will be commensurate with their adjusted responsibilities and experience.

The successful candidate will be offered considerable opportunities to advance their career and will have a stimulating and varied role in a distinguished Oxford college with ambitious plans for the future.

This is a full-time post on the University’s Grade 6 scale, currently £32,332 - £38,205 p.a., depending on experience. Further particulars can be downloaded from the College website www.sjc.ox.ac.uk

To apply, please send a full CV as well as a covering letter and the names and contact details of two referees (as a single pdf) by email to vacancies@sjc.ox.ac.uk.

Closing date for applications is 12 noon 20 June 2024.  Interviews will be held week commencing 1 July 2024.

St John’s College, Oxford, is committed to Equal Opportunities and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
