WE ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW TEAM MEMBER! JOIN US as part of our successful, diverse team in EMEA.
Position Summary:
The LSEG Oil Research team is providing market insight, analysis and instantaneous access to clients interested in the crude oil, refined products and shipping sector by continuously supervising global supply and demand, trade flows, infrastructure outages, derivatives market and other financial activities.
The market analyst will be responsible to develop and maintain models of trade flows, oil production, supply and demand balances and refining. The role is primarily based in London and will focus on the Europe, Middle East and Africa region.
The new joiner will be involved in data collection and manipulation, quantitative and qualitative analysis as well as assist in writing and publishing of timely and adhoc reports. The candidate will also be encouraged to develop advanced excel and Power BI models along with power point documents based on our research and datasets, and ultimately work with the Senior Analysts on building relationships with the various partners in the EMEA energy market.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a market leading Research team in the oil / shipping sector to design and develop new methodologies, quantitative models, analysis that enhance existing or new products and services.
Role Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for conducting primary and secondary research across the barrel, with a focus on helping build Supply / Demand models.
  • The analyst is encouraged to come with a strong analytics and modelling background either as part of a Research advisory organization or for an oil company
  • Maintain daily interaction with a network of local and international oil market players to provide market insight and add value to our products.
  • Conduct research, prepare client deliverables, and complete workflow to the required quality and within the designated timeframe.
  • Continuously maintain and improve core technical and analytical processes.
  • Supports the business development process by helping to prepare deliverables to showcase our capabilities & research to clients.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • Team player, with a flexible attitude and approach - to be able to work well with a team and be empathic for getting things done.
  • A bachelor’s degree holder in Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Engineering or Petroleum studies from a reputable university.
  • A masters or technical specialization / certification would be an advantage.
  • Experience of at least 3-5 years in the physical oil markets or a research house, with an understanding of market fundamentals and the oil/shipping market value chain.
  • Candidates with experience in any Oil market value chain are also encouraged to apply.
  • Some understanding of financial markets, and their impact on the oil industry would be an advantage.
  • Preferred candidates will possess or will be interested to develop the ability to communicate market insights in clear and concise style through reports, presentations, and webinars.
  • Able to conduct, analyze, and report primary research.
  • Strong grounding in statistics.
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel (VBA coding would be a plus) is a must.
  • Knowledge of MATLAB, R or Python is a must in order to be able to query, interrogate and build models using massive data sets to help derive insights.
  • Advanced skills in using the Microsoft suite of applications and visualization tools such as Power BI (or) Tableau.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with individuals at various levels within the organization as well as external clients.
  • Time management skills for handling multiple tasks simultaneously, while completing work within allocated timeframes.
  • Good critical thinking, Problem-solving and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
