Alexander Steele is working exclusively with a food manufacturing company based in East Lothian who are looking for an Analytical Chemist.
The Analytical Chemist role has been created primarily to support the diversification into flavoured spirits. This role will initially focus on flavour-driven process design to support the development of a range of speciality malt flavoured spirits.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leading establishment, and on-going maintenance of HPLC and GC-MS-olfactory instrumentation
- The design and implementation of analytical laboratory SOP’s (standard operating procedures) with associated RA’s (risk assessments)
- Designing and maintaining internal flavour-database with associated process variable/conditions
- Constructing, implementing and leading trials to optimise malt roasting, brewing and distilling processes to create highly-flavoured malt spirits.
- Constructing, implementing and leading trials to optimise malt roasting, brewing processes to create flavour-led alcohol-free beer ingredients.
- Constructing, implementing and leading trials to optimise malt roasting, brewing and spray-drying processes to create highly-flavoured savoury food ingredients.
- Flavour profiling of existing brands to support customer ‘flavour-matching’ requirements.
- Design and lead the sensory analysis program (training, panel management and sampling)
- Technical sales-support-travel to meet customers and collaborate with distribution partners in market.
- Attending industry/trade conferences to maintain knowledge/gain exposure to latest research and best-available-technologies.
- Due diligence towards food toxicology and the detection of process contaminants (hazardous to health) during the development of new products/processes.
EXPERIENCE EXPECTATIONS
- Degree or advanced qualification in Analytical Chemistry is essential.
- Brewing and distilling industry experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and understanding of sensory analysis is highly desirable
- An advanced capability in data-management and report writing is essential.
- An operational understanding of GC-MS is essential.
- An operational understanding of HPLC is essential.
- Proficiency in sample preparation and GLP disciplines is essential.
- Ability to develop advanced analytical methods to support research and development projects is highly desirable.
ON OFFER
- £40,000 - £45,000
- Monday – Friday
- 28 days annual leave (increases with length of employment)
