Job description

University Hospitals of Leicester, Mortuary Service cares for approximately 6500 patients each year and is capable of accommodating up to 700 patients simultaneously.
We performed over two 2000 post mortems last year. This included adult, perinatal, paediatric, hospital, coronial and forensic examinations. We received referrals, from across the UK, for coronial paediatric, bariatric and patients with group 3 pathogens, including prion disease.
We have been at the forefront of developing CT as a non-invasive diagnostic alternative to traditional post-mortem for a number of years and currently derive a cause of death using CT on approximately 85% of Coronial post-mortems. We advocate external only and limited examinations where possible and also perform clinical intervention as preparation for angiograms
This application will close once sufficient applications have been received. This can happen quickly, therefore early application is advised.
Continual growth of our service means we have a vacancy for an Anatomical Pathology Technologist; the successful candidate would join our small team of qualified and trainee APT’s supported by Assistant Technical Officers and administrative staff.
We are looking to recruit an experienced Anatomical Pathology Technologist holding as a minimum the RPSH Certificate. The successful candidate will ideally have experience in all our post mortem specialities but consideration will be given to those who have not had the opportunity to work in centres where paediatric or Forensic cases are performed. Such a candidate would be given training and support to achieve competency.
All our APT’s participate in an on-call roster and are entitled to a retention payment in addition to the usual standby and on-call payments.
We are one of the biggest and busiest NHS trusts in the country, incorporating the General, Glenfield and Royal Infirmary hospitals. We have our very own Children’s Hospital and run one of the country’s leading heart centres.
Our team is made up of more than 17,000 staff providing a range of services primarily for the one million residents of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
We work with partners at the University of Leicester and De Montfort University providing world-class teaching to nurture and develop the next generation of doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, many of whom go on to spend their working lives with us.
Our purpose is to provide ‘Caring at its best’ and our staff have helped us create a set of values that embody who we are and what we’re here to do. They are:
• We are compassionate
• We are proud
• We are inclusive
• We are one team
Our patients are at the heart of all we do and we believe that ‘Caring at its best’ is not just about the treatments and services we provide, but about giving our patients the best possible experience.
