Animal Welfare Lecturer
Location: Dorchester, Dorset
Salary: £24,902 - £30,723

They specialise in providing a wide range of full-time, degree level and short courses to help students grow and progress in their future careers.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a proactive professional with previous teaching experience delivering to a range of learners on Level 1-3 or an experienced industry professional who s passionate about educating looking for a career change to join Kingston Maurward College. In this role, you will be a role model to the students delivering inspiring theory and beyond classroom practical teaching with the focus on either domestic or exotic animals.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach groups of students and complete summative and formative assessment in both practical skills, classroom situations and online using both of our Coneygar and Animal Park animal collections.
  • Monitor the attendance, punctuality and academic progress for all students in your groups providing them with access to any extra help they may require (eg learning support)
  • Prepare for moderation, internal verification and liaise with the Course Manager, Academic Manager and External Verifier to ensure the effective validation of programmes.
  • Contribute to course management, organisation and pastoral support of students, including admissions, enrolment, induction, careers education, guidance and progression, enrichment and curriculum development.
  • Organise and conduct trips and study tours as appropriate face to face or virtual.
  • To supervise students whilst they participate on training programmes.
  • To organise and run demonstrations, guided tours and talks for visitors and students.

Who are we looking for?
  • Animal Science / Management qualification at Level 6 or above or equivalent
  • Teaching qualification or the willingness to work towards.
  • Minimum Grade C/4 in GCSE Maths and English.
  • Experience and confidence in working with a range of animals; small, domestic, farm and exotic.
  • Some supervisory / management experience.
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of the animal care industry
  • Good practical skills in animal husbandry tasks.
  • Driving licence
