The Application Consultant for Leica Biosystems is responsible for delivering first class technical applications support and training, performing demonstrations of Leica Biosystems instruments and reagents, with promotion and sales of the LBS product portfolio. The ultimate objective is to support customers throughout the entire customer journey whilst growing core reagent and product sales through market intelligence.

The Application Consultant will provide applications support and training, perform demonstrations of Leica Biosystems instruments to customers in their defined territory, ensuring Leica Biosystems products have maximum “uptime” through optimization of reagents and systems and therefore retain customers to generate reagent order intake. The role will work in close conjunction with the entire (local) Leica Biosystems team to provide optimal customer support with demonstrations, tender responses, sales growth and margin. The role will assist in increasing market share through effective promotion and selling efforts and by defending achieved market share against competition.

An exciting chance to join our highly successful team as an Application Consultant covering the Midlands & North UK territory. Ideally to cover the territory most effectively you will live within a commutable distance of Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, York.

This position is part of the Field Applications team, working in the North UK region and will be fully remote. You will report to the Sales Enablement Manager - Pre-Analytics, who is responsible for applications support for core histology products for the UK & Ireland.

In this role, the major responsibilities you will have include:

Customer Acquisition and business development: Collaborate with Account Manager in researching and identifying potential new customers in line with strategic directives to increase sales and to expand the Leica Biosystems customer base. Key areas to target include current Leica Biosystems users, users of non-Leica Biosystems platforms, Clinical and Research customers. Support Account Managers and visit customer sites to identify and qualify opportunities to offer consumables and reagents with instrumentation to further increase sales in new market segments. Record all activities as requested by the (local) management. Assist with technical responses for public tenders.

Demo/Negotiations & Support: In collaboration with the entire (local) Leica Biosystems team, initiate and coordinate demos of Leica Biosystems products at customer sites. Lead customer visits for demonstrations at customer sites and/or LBS Facilities. Participate in seminars, trade shows and meetings as necessary in order to promote existing and new products to customers in line with the existing or new promotional programs and strategies. Perform or assist with workflow mapping projects to promote existing and new instrument and consumable products to customers, addressing their specific needs.

Application support: Provide, with a commercial awareness, to customers as required: instrument and software user training, instrument protocol development and validation support, in-field troubleshooting of application problems and diagnosing rudimentary hardware and software failures.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Strong communication skills – Able to make presentations in front of different audiences and stakeholders, holding a training class and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent problem solving & analytical skills - Able to quickly identify customer needs and adapt support based on those to gain customer trust and win.
  • Commercial awareness: mindset of winning competitive customers for Leica and being brand ambassador, identification of potential customer needs for lead qualification.
  • Must be willing to travel within their defined territory up to 80% of the time and also attend Sales and related product meetings as required nationwide.
  • 3 years’ experience – hands-on experience in all areas of Histology with a detailed practical knowledge of specimen dissection, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, routine H&E and special staining using automated platforms and IHC/ISH using automated platforms.
  • Scientific Background / Education: BA/BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent field.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Multinational companies
  • Relevant experience in a similar role in a technical, sales-oriented environment
