Development Engineer - Automation and Control
This position is tailored for engineers seeking the excitement of devising and executing intricate automation, mechatronics, and data acquisition systems for diverse turnkey projects.
The role promises unique challenges, ensuring job satisfaction through the delivery of solutions in cutting-edge automotive and industrial settings.
Responsibilities include determining optimal methods for implementing customized automation and control processes using internal software (Sierra CP CADET) and the Data Acquisition and Control System (DACS). The engineer will develop C# control software, utilizing the advanced CADET API, and may need knowledge of VB6/VBA for supporting legacy systems.
Tasks also involve interfacing with third-party equipment for integration within the CADET and C#, as well as knowledge of various protocols such as Ethernet, Serial, Ethercat, CAN, and AK protocol. The engineer will create automation sequences, analyze engineering systems for automation recommendations, and provide post-test diagnostic analysis for fault rectifications.
Other responsibilities encompass the creation of test and acceptance procedures, developing custom system functionality based on customer requirements, and conducting frequent site visits for installation, testing, and documentation within the UK and globally.
Qualifications for this role include:
- Ideally suited for an individual with a joint electrical and mechanical/robotic/mechatronics/automation engineering degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a hardware-based automation role.
- Experience with PLC systems, especially safety PLC systems, is desirable but not essential.
The ideal candidate should be self-driven, proactive, possess good time management skills, and have a solid understanding of C# and Visual Studio. An engineering background in control and automation systems (preferably with a degree in mechatronics, robotics, automation, or a related field) is crucial. Familiarity with automation hardware (sensors, actuators, inverters, etc.) is also required.
Additional requirements include a willingness to work away from home during the working week, occasional overseas trips, a full UK driving license, and indefinite UK right to work.
