College of Science & Engineering - EPCC

Full time (35 hours/week)

Open ended (Permanent)

EPCC, the UK’s leading High-Performance Computing and Data Analytics centre at the University of Edinburgh, is growing our team of Software Engineers and Data Scientists, with a focus on delivery of data science services using ML and DevOps practices. Since 2015, EPCC has run the complex systems that underpin the Scottish National Safe Haven, a secure environment to support public-benefit research with sensitive data. Throughout the pandemic we were integral to the processing of COVID-19 research across the UK.

Building on this success, we are expanding our Safe Haven Services as part of the Edinburgh International Data Facility (EIDF) ( https://www.ed.ac.uk/edinburgh-international-data-facility ) at our Advanced Computing Facility ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlnHgI0weWQ).

EIDF will support new “Trusted Research Environments” and expand Safe Haven capabilities, including new-generation GPU clusters, large memory systems, virtualisation services and multi petabyte-scale storage services. This is to support University, Scottish and UK research in health, government, finance and more.

This infrastructure, combined with data science software stacks delivered in partnership with Software Engineers and collaborative research partners underpin Edinburgh’s ambition to be the data capital of Europe.

If you have skills in some of our key areas and are interested in joining one of Europe’s premier High-Performance Computing centres at this exciting time, we’d love to hear from you.

We are looking for:

  • Team members that span Software Engineering and Data Science to deliver and support new services and technologies.
  • People who can demonstrate skills in data science languages Python and R, and software engineering (e.g., coding skills, testing frameworks, version control, use of distributed infrastructure (e.g., Kubernetes, containers), data engineering (e.g., databases, streaming, MLops), and machine learning (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, LLM models).
  • People who can demonstrate the ability to interact with users of services and software to deliver results that satisfy user requirements.
  • People who can demonstrate the ability to deliver well-documented designs and implementations of software, data pipelines and analytical methods.
  • People with an awareness of information security and governance because EPCC must meet globally recognised ISO accreditation standards for it to continue to deliver secure “Trusted Research Environments”.

Join our amazing team and be part of something unique.
