The CAD Technician Apprentice role
The CAD Technician apprentice will learn to prepare building and civil engineering construction drawings and models in line with design requirements and communicate this information clearly and accurately in digital form to the site team and project engineer to enable the construction phase to commence.
The responsibilities that the CAD Technician would work towards would be:
- Preparation of civil, structural and architectural design models and drawings
- Understanding the principles of what is to be achieved and appreciate what is shown on the drawings can be built
- Ability to manage and use 3D design information including civil, structural and architectural models
- Keeping the project on target by hitting deadlines and compliance with standards relating to digital information
During the apprenticeship, the CAD Technician would work as part of the BIM team within McAlpine Design Group, supporting projects being constructed by Sir Robert McAlpine and others. This would be complemented by study on a day-release basis with a suitable academic provider. Your profile:
The CAD Technician Apprentice role requires someone with a passion for problem solving, an interest in construction, engineering and the latest technology, and the potential to become a professionally qualified technician (EngTech). You must be eligible to work in the UK. Relevant work experience and a driving licence are desirable but not essential.
Course entry requirements are as follows;
- A Level EEE - Must include Mathematics and preferably a Science in either Chemistry or Physics (UCAS points: 48)
- T-level (Pass or above) in Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning. (UCAS points: 72)
- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma MPP in an Engineering subject area or Construction and Built Environment area (Must include Mathematics and Further Mathematics) (UCAS points: 64)
- BTEC Level 3 National Diploma MM in an Engineering subject area, with a minimum of merit in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. (UCAS points: 64)
- Civil Engineering Technician level 3 apprenticeship MP (UCAS points: 48) alongside grade Pass or Distinction at EPA
- Any other technical qualifications awarded with UCAS points at a similar level supported by substantial relevant work experience , please get in contact with the LSBU Apprenticeships at (url removed) for Apprenticeships Routes
- Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).
