SalaryHave you always had a passion for anything automotive? We are offering a fantastic opportunity for someone who has an interest for improving a range of vehicles! As an apprentice HGV Technician in Müller Milk & Ingredients Distribution, you will learn how to inspect and maintain our HGV fleet to comply with Legal & Company Standards. It is a hands on role where you will learn all aspects of being able to assist our workshop employees in looking after our HGV’s.
What will the apprentice be doing?
You will have the opportunity to gain new skills and knowledge whilst carrying out maintenance and repairs on Heavy Vehicles over 3.5 tonnes in your workplace, this will include mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical vehicle systems.
You will be immersed in the fast paced and thriving world of the automotive industry. The tasks you will face will be ever changing, with new technologies and diagnostic techniques constantly being introduced.
Some of the tasks you will be working on include:
- Prepare vehicles for MOT testing and transport to Test Centres as required.
- Record vehicle defects and keep accurate records of minor accident works carried out on each vehicle.
- Assist our workshop employees in all aspects of looking after our HGV’s.
- Learn about maintenance, a tidy workplace and Health and Safety processes and procedures to ensure you work safely within our workshops.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
S&B Automotive Academy is a specialist apprenticeship training provider located in Bedminster, Bristol. The apprentice will work in Muller’s technical workshop to develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours in relation to Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance apprenticeship standard, the apprentice will also be required to commute to S&B’s Academy to attend 7 weekly training blocks a year throughout the duration of the apprenticeship. The apprentice will be assigned a workplace mentor and a college development coach who will offer support, advice, and guidance by monitoring progress using S&B’s tailored electronic logbook which both employer and the apprentice will have access to.
For National apprentices, S&B’s Academy is located a short walk from Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station and if required, S&B have partnerships with chain hotels to provide accommodation, breakfast, and evening meals for the week that the employer will pay for when you are attending your weekly training blocks.
To be considered for this apprenticeship you must have GCSEs, Functional Skills or Key Skills at grade C/4 or above in English and maths (or equivalent), If your grades are below this, we will discuss your options for taking functional skills in Maths and/or English. As well as this, predicated grades are accepted, and work experience or knowledge is beneficial but not essential.
As a result you will receive the following:
- Level 3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship Standard
- Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths & English (if not already exempt)

Working week
You will work shifts - Monday - Friday between the hours of 7am and 5pm, shifts to be confirmed.
