Role description:

Our Apprenticeship programme offers you an exciting opportunity to jump straight into the professional world and earn a living whilst also studying for professional qualifications. As an Apprentice you will play an active part in driving your career development and will be exposed to a variety of projects across the business. Technical experience is key in our sector, which is why we will provide you with a clear framework to work towards chartership. You’ll be part of a supportive Early Careers community and will work alongside skilled professionals. You’ll benefit from structured on-the-job training, mentoring, plus funding and support for accreditations relevant to your programme, as well as the assistance you need to develop and succeed.

Role accountabilities:

Our Mechanical Engineers work extensively in a broad spectrum of UK and international industrial sectors, and as such they are at the forefront of the efforts to reduce energy and carbon and to improve living standards across the globe. Our Overhead line electrification (OLE) Engineering team work on the delivery of technically challenging engineering schemes for prestigious Rail Infrastructure projects. They are involved in all aspects of projects; from conception through to designs, drawings and specifications ensuring national standards and client requirements are met.

On this apprenticeship you will complete the BSc Rail and Rail Systems Engineer (Mechanical & Electrical Pathway) degree through our agreed training provider Sheffield Hallum University. This will be delivered on a block release basis.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Be a UK/EU/EAA resident for at least three years prior to starting the course and have the right to work in the UK.
  • 18 years old and have left full time education when the apprenticeship starts.
  • Have gained a minimum of 4 GCSE qualifications, grade 4-9 Including Maths and English and 3 A-Level, or equivalent qualifications at grade A to C.
  • You will demonstrate typical Arcadian skills including Resilience, Creativity, Analytical Thinking and being a Team Player.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to use your technical knowledge to influence and consult stakeholders.
  • Willing to travel and stay away from home when required (where possible we embrace virtual working).
