Job Specifics:
• regularly inspecting engines, gearboxes, hydraulics, electrical systems and tyres
• identifying faults, dismantling parts and repairing or replacing faulty parts
• reassembling parts and testing them to make sure they are working properly and safely
• carrying out routine servicing of plant and equipment both on site and in the workshop
• doing regular servicing, checking for damage or wear and making adjustments
• dealing with all aspects of the equipment: electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic
• use of various hand and power tools, as well as specialist computer fault-finding equipment, electrical testing equipment.
• finding the cause of breakdowns using manuals and technical drawings.
• using computer diagnostic equipment to find faults in complex machinery
Training
You will attend Exeter College 2 days a week during term time only and learn whilst on the job.
Qualifications required
Maths and English Grade C/4 or equivalent.

Prospects
Upon successful completion, you will likely have the opportunity to move onto the Level 3 Engineering technician Apprenticeship. There is also potential to become a full time, fully qualified road rail Plant Fitter.
