Job description

A Future with purpose

At Arup we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to do socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity - using technology, imagination and rigour to deliver remarkable outcomes.

The Opportunity

Our apprenticeships allow you to study for industry-recognised qualifications whilst earning a competitive salary. As an apprentice, you will study with a training provider, such as a university, and combine this experience with real responsibilities in the workplace. Your study pattern could be day or block release, or via distance learning, depending on the course that you enrol on. A dedicated mentor will guide you through your personal and professional development. Level 6 Degree Apprenticeships have a typical duration of 3– 6 years, during which you will attain both a professional and academic qualification to further your career. Our apprentices are employed on a permanent basis, so you'll continue to progress with Arup once you've completed your course.

Civil Engineering Technician Level 6 Apprenticeship

We are looking for a Civil Engineering Apprentice Technician to join our Civil Engineering team. You will help a team including engineers and other professionals to assess, design and supervise civil engineering works. Projects and designs will come in all shapes and sizes. You will work as part of multi-disciplinary teams to help us deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients, as well as local authorities and many others.

There will be opportunities to work on early-stage feasibility studies through to detailed design where you will contribute to developing and analysing 3D design models to deliver successful outcomes for our clients. Furthermore, across all teams you will support a variety of work including the production of engineering drawings and sketches, virtual design reviews, preparation of engineering calculations and contributing to solutions for design challenges.

We are looking for candidates with A Level Maths at Grade B or above (or equivalent), plus two A Levels at Grade C or above OR a relevant Level 3 qualification/apprenticeship.

Infrastructure – Electrical Apprenticeship Opportunities Level 6

Right now we're looking for Apprentice Electrical Engineers to join our Electrical Engineering teams in Whitehaven. From your first day, you'll join an unrivalled community of experts, where everyone is supported in their career path and encouraged to work towards an accredited qualification.

You'll help us to deliver effective and professional services for a range of varied and high-profile clients. While you'll have a great deal of responsibility from day one, we'll give you the chance to take on more as you progress and broaden your skills.

As an Apprentice Electrical Engineer you'll work closely with a team of engineers. You will provide technical support as they carry out design work and project management services for the infrastructure and energy businesses. The team provides design services as part of an Alliance and therefore will also be involved in activities related to construction, installation, testing & commissioning of new & existing assets from electrical distribution networks, substations, industrial process buildings and more.

You'll support a variety of different work, including:

  • Production of engineering drawings and sketches, including the production of 3D models and other advanced digital engineering data sets.
  • Preparation of simple engineering calculations
  • Contributing to solutions for design challenges
  • Taking part in meetings, site visits, presentations and workshops
  • Helping with the administration of projects
  • Contribution to the development & implementation of Digital tools for engineering use purposes.

We are looking for candidates who have 96 UCAS points. Applicants should have five GCSEs at grade C or above or grade 4 to 9 (or equivalent), including English, Mathematics and a science, technology or engineering-related subject

An applicant's Level 3 subjects must include a mathematical-based subject and a science, technology or engineering-related subject.

Is this role right for you

We're looking for apprentices who are curious and ready to evolve how they think and work.

Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. If you can share your knowledge and ideas and encourage others to do the same; whilst having a desire to deliver excellent services for clients – we'd like to hear from you.

You should be able to start this opportunity no later than September 2024.

Please note we are unable to offer Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship for this role. Therefore, you must ensure that you are eligible to work in the UK for the duration of the apprenticeship opportunity without our sponsorship in order for your application to be considered.
