The role will have responsibility for processing of research applications and selected aspects of assessment of research studies. The post-holder will act as the primary point of contact for applicants, working with colleagues to deliver a coordinated service to applicants. They will support the smooth running of Research Ethics Committee meetings and record discussions and decisions by committees. The post-holder will be part of a wider team which will ensure that appropriate reviews have been completed and recorded in line with agreed processes to inform decisions of sites on the viability of the study locally. The post holder will: Process research applications, undertaking elements of the review and ensuring coordinated communication with the applicant. Attend and take minutes at Research Ethics Committee (REC) meetings ensuring that the minutes are transcribed in language which is understandable to a lay person and in accordance with Minute Taking Guidance. Alongside Approvals Specialists produce REC decision information after the meeting to be added to the full request for information that is sent to the applicant. Confirm that applications which have been submitted as having no ethical issues do not need any REC review. Escalate any applications which have been submitted for proportionate REC review to full committee if there are material ethical issues. Assess amendments as delegated by an Approvals Specialist. Travel, regularly, to service REC meetings at locations across the country to be determined by operational need. Contribute to collection of accurate metrics and data to evaluate progress against Key Performance Indicators and compliance with procedures. Provide feedback and contribute to implementation of action plans for process modifications and engage positively with such discussions and implementation of change. Work flexibly within the team, supporting change and development of process as appropriate, sometimes without finalised procedure documentation as processes are refined. Support peers by supporting and accepting swift reallocation of workload where appropriate. Coordinate review activities undertaken by pharmacists liaising with applicants and pharmacists in line with agreed process, and to strict deadlines.
