We look after a diverse estate across Northumbria, including the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital (NSECH), one of the only hospitals in the UK dedicated to emergency care, and from Morpeth up to Berwick-upon-tweed. NHFM also own the Northumbria Healthcare Manufacturing and Innovation Hub, unique to the NHS, manufacturing hub which creates personal protective equipment (PPE) for staff across the UK.

Job Description

Based on site at NSECH, you will oversee all technical maintenance and engineering estates operations, including all life-critical engineering plant and employed staff and contractors. You will manage all health, safety and compliance matters and provide a high level of service at all times.

You will liaise with the Soft Services Manager working alongside their team, and deputising for the Area Estates and Facilities Manager when required.

You will be responsible for all planned and preventative maintenance and reactive works, working to performance targets and using your skills in project management, system process reporting and team management

You will undertake Authorised Person responsibilities for matters such as Legionella, Electrical and Medical Gas Pipeline Systems, and lead in the safe operation, installation and maintenance of all related infrastructure.

You will monitor budgets both capital and revenue, and monitor performance of operations, as well as liaising with key stakeholders such as medical staff, departmental heads, and external stakeholders in delivering effective works, whilst minimising disruption.

You will contribute to the Trust Green Plan and NHE Net Zero target by embracing modern working methods and reducing carbon impact.

You will develop business cases and implement schemes for ongoing lifecycle and asset management plans, and monitor quality of all systems and works.

The Successful Applicant

  • A competent facilities professional with a technical background in estates, engineering, M&E or similar ideally qualified to degree level or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years experience working in Property Estates and Facilities environment.
  • Healthcare and acute environment expertise is not essential, but a technical grounding with complex estates management would be ideal
  • An excellent communicator at all levels, with knowledge of engineering and excellent team management skills
  • A person who can see opportunities to overcome challenges, with excellent relationship building skills.
