Job description

East Lancashire NHS Foundation Trust is a Veteran Aware hospital and is a member of the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance.
The Armed Forces Veteran Manager role will lead implementation and give targeted support to ensure success of specific parts of the Trust Veteran Aware/VCHA action plan in conjunction with the NHS Armed Forces Bill 2022.
This role will require travel to all sites within ELHT.
This person will work with a wide range of stakeholders from varying professions across the local health system supporting delivery of projects that will allow Royal Blackburn to meet its action plan to deliver the 8 priorities of the VCHA manifesto and the government & NHS Armed Forces plan to 2028 and ensure that actions are taken to address the inequalities that can be faced by the Armed Forces community.
The post holder will work to address the inequalities faced by the Armed Forces community through extensive engagement with the local community, stakeholders, and other NHS organizations. Whilst also enhancing staff awareness ensuring that the community are engaged through service change, redesign, and delivery.
The post holder will ensure systems and processes are embedded into practice and lead on external reporting to the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.
This post holder will act autonomously and be accountable to the Armed Forces Senior Lead for the progression of the Armed Forces Community and Military Veterans agenda at East Lancashire NHS Foundation Trust.
Excellent communication skills to enable the successful candidate to raise awareness of the Armed Forces Veterans NHS long term plan within trust.
The aim of the role is to enhance the experience of patient care, demonstrating leadership in the management of the Armed Forces Community and Families within EAST Lancashire NHS trusts 5 hospital sites and community settings. Achieving consistency in practice, and a strong patient focus.

You will be involved in processes including audit, formal report writing, Other duties will include liaising with clinical staff to ensure support is given to each all of the Armed Forces community that passes through our trust including relative and care giver of our veterans and families. You will be crucial in devising action plans, protocols and information leaflets; preparing reports for and representing the division at executive meetings meetings. Confident use of IT systems, an enjoyment of learning and a structured approach will be advantageous.
1. Act as the Armed Forces Veteran Manager to ensure fair and equitable treatment for the Armed Forces community and their families to meet the intent of the Armed Forces Covenant and NHS Plan.
2. Raising awareness of the Armed Forces Veterans agenda with the ELHT multi-disciplinary workforce.
3. Work as Lead provider of the team that maintains the Trusts Veteran Aware Accreditation (VCHA) in conjunction with the People and OD team, Patient Experience and Armed Forces Veterans Senior Lead
4. Proactively participate in multiagency meetings with partner agencies. Develop ELHT staff knowledge and skills in the specific area of Armed Forces NHS long Term Plan.
5. Offer expert advise in matters relating to the Armed Forces
6. You will be the driver for providing a high-quality service to our patients, bringing innovative ideas for change Armed Forces Veteran Care within The NHS & ELH.
1. Design, deliver and evaluate pathways that link the veteran and their family (and other eligible members of the Armed forces community) with existing welfare support from a charity or credible funded partner whilst they are in hospital and if and when they are able to go back into the community to improve awareness of the Armed Forces Covenant and the needs of Armed Forces communities throughout the hospital setting and local health system.
1. Be Leading provider and promoting training, including developing an in-house training plan to increase awareness across all staff groups within the Trust
2. Be responsible for assessing, planning and implementing the needs of the Armed Forces veteran and referral to outside organisations as individualised care then evaluate if services meet the needs of the Armed Forces veteran or family.

5. The post holder will be autonomous in their decision making on a daily basis and will liaise with the Armed Forces Senior Lead when needed.
6. *The post holder will hold budget authorisation for a small budget dealing with procurement of equipment, office supplies, transport, accommodation if staff are on conferences, expenses & uniforms.
