Functional area: Engineering

This role will provide technical leadership and expertise to the RWE Offshore Wind portfolio in the field of life management and extension. The key activities will include:

  • Organising and facilitating of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis workshops, ensuring that the key risks for each asset are documented and mitigated in line with industry best practice
  • Management of analytical assessment work relating to calculation of projected fatigue life, stress and damage plots
  • Organising and facilitating Engineering Review exercises with attendees from the department
  • Documenting each activity in an appropriate manner
  • Supporting the Life Management community to identify industry best practice and develop areas of interest relevant to the group’s work
  • Representing the group when discussing projects with colleagues from across the business, including senior leadership
  • Working closely with other focus groups within the business (Drivetrain, Civils & Structures, Decommissioning etc.)
  • Developing relationships with colleagues from across the business to deliver high quality project conclusions.

  

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Participate and develop complex unique projects with high business impact. Participate or lead complex technical topics with high business impact
  • Act as subject matter expert with regards to Life Management, policy, regulation, and operational management for the team. Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging external regulation and industry best practices through continuing professional development
  • Use data from a wide range of sources to analyse key themes and identify possible impacts on the business
  • Analyse and identify opportunities to improve processes, practices, and procedures using prescribed methodologies
  • Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation where relevant to improve performance and fulfil personal potential. Maintain an in-depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media
  • Contribute to the formation of a key element of functional strategy through specialist expertise and insights
  • Identify issues or needs of the business and identify potential causes, barriers and key stakeholders
  • Identify and evaluate complex, expertise-led solutions against a range of criteria to find the ones that best meet business needs
  • Identify opportunities and suggest improvements to existing processes, systems and procedures. Leads on delivering and implementing innovation & improvement projects
  • Supports changes to policies, processes, standards and practices to improve operational support. Active encouragement of global technical community & share of best practice and consistency approach
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, practices, and procedures using prescribed methodologies
  • Develop stakeholder engagement through identifying stakeholders, finding out their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these to support the communication of business information and decisions

Your profile:

  • A background in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil) ideally within a process environment
  • Experience in organising and facilitating Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP)
  • Understanding of engineering activities and techniques relating to inspection (visual and NDE), condition monitoring and evaluation, testing and general integrity
  • An understanding of composites and their degradation mechanisms
  • An appreciation of the modelling techniques used in the assessment of fitness for purpose of structures (Finite Element, Computation Fluid Dynamics, Aeroelastic)
  • An understanding of control systems including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
  • The ability to bring together large amount of data and information and make pragmatic suggestions
  • Experience in planning and supervising delivery of projects, proven history of project management, story-telling and senior management communication
  • Experience in supervising and coaching junior colleges
  • A willingness to learn and develop fresh ideas
  • A skilled communicator and collaborator
