Be part of something big! Help shape the future of gas for generations to come.
At Cadent we're excited to be part of the future of UK energy! We've got a clear roadmap that will drive our performance to the forefront of our industry and support the UK government in achieving its net zero targets by 2050.
We have an exciting, new opportunity for a Asset Investment Engineer to join our North West network.
As a Asset Investment Engineer, reporting to the Head of Asset Investment for the North West, you'll gather information and apply your Asset Investment appraisal and excellent communication skills to identify, specify and justify investment in our network assets, specifically our Mains and Service pipes that supply our customers safely and reliably.
Your decisions will balance customer expectations, cost, risk and performance of our assets in line with Cadent safety, engineering, legal and regulatory obligations.
As a Asset Investment Engineer you will drive performance and work with the delivery partner and all aspects of the delivery chain to ensure timely feedback on the investment plan and resolution of issues and blockers.
What you'll get to work on
Through effective engagement with a range of Central and Network deployed teams you will:
  • Identify and prioritise assets (mains and services) for investment (replacement or refurbishment) that ensures we comply with our engineering policies and standards whilst balancing cost and risk.
  • Be a lead contributor to the development of a comprehensive investment plan to deliver the Network Asset Management Plan (NAMP), including option scoping, the evaluation of investment options using whole life costing principles.
  • Be a lead contributor to the development of a comprehensive NAMP for your network that will deliver the requirements of Cadent's Asset Management Strategy, using recognised Decision Support Tools.
  • Lead the implementation of elements of the NAMP, including an understanding of resourcing and delivery strategies to drive delivery of asset improvements described in the NAMP
  • Develop your own capability and that of the extended asset management team to influence and deliver our rolling annual plan, including the culture and competence requirements of the team
  • Take a lead on delivering elements of a programme of improved asset data quality to support effective decision-making
  • Support the ongoing accreditation of ISO55001 through effective engagement in and review of the asset management system at a network level
  • Ensure and promote compliance with Cadent policies, standards and procedures with accountability for effective resolution of any non-compliances identified, including supporting any reviews and investigations as required
  • Effectively manage risk as required to fully execute the purpose of the role

Who are we looking for
The following skills and experience are required:
  • Understanding and knowledge of regulatory frameworks for asset intensive organisations, particularly RIIO & Asset Management principles, processes and techniques
  • Experience of using project controls to predict, understand and influence the outcomes of your projects
  • Financial and business acumen
  • Demonstrable analytical skills: the ability to organise, amalgamate data, create formulas in Excel or equivalent and interpret the results. Experience of GIS software such as ESRI is bonus.
  • Decision making: using multiple information/data sources to make a justified and reasoned decision at pace.
  • Ordered and critical thinker with strong delivery mindset
  • Great communicator, influencer and collaborator
  • Working with complex engineering assets, with the ability to interpret complex technical information and data to construct effective solutions
  • Proven experience of scoping and influencing the selection and delivery of investment projects
