Job description

Summary

We are looking for an Assistant Building Surveyor to join us in the South West region on a 27 month fixed term contract. This is an exciting opportunity to gain Building Surveying experience across our property portfolios in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire whilst working towards your RICS APC.

Reporting to a Senior Building Surveyor, you’ll be operating within a team of experienced specialists, providing support on a wide variety of building repair and conservation projects in unique settings.

Your contractual base will be our Tisbury Hub (Wiltshire, SP3 6LW) but we support hybrid working, with a mix of home, office and on-site working, and are happy to explore arrangements that strike the right balance for you and the Trust. The role will involve travel throughout Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire so you will need a driving licence and access to your own vehicle (expenses will be paid).

The role is offered at a salary of £30,225 although there may be some flexibility in salary depending on the experience of the candidate.

What it's like to work here

Our Dorset, Wiltshire and Somerset portfolios are rich in culture, historically significant and all within exceptionally beautiful landscapes. Properties that our team looks after include Brownsea Island, Corfe Castle, Kingston Lacy, Stourhead, Lacock Abbey, Barrington Court, and Montacute, along with numerous other smaller properties. It is a truly an awe inspiring place to work.

You will be part of the National Trust’s internal Consultancy, which provides specialist support and skills to our properties and projects. You’ll be line manged by a Senior Building Surveyor and work in a team alongside Building Surveyors, project managers and other specialists, working together to conserve, enhance and share our places. You will also be part of the Trust’s wider regional and national networks of Building Surveyors.

What you'll be doing

This is a developmental role, during which you will be building knowledge, skills and experience as you work towards becoming a Chartered Building Surveyor.

You will provide support for Building Surveyors, assisting in the development and delivery of high quality, successful schemes at properties across our Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire portfolios. You’ll assist with the delivery of high quality, successful building schemes by proactively inputting and advising where required. You will be involved in planning and delivering a programme of building repairs and improvements, supporting other Building Surveyors working on a project programme or working on your own initiative.

Who we're looking for
