About the Opportunity:
We are seeking experienced personnel to work within an existing team which provides a key role in supporting the Ministry of Defence's Nuclear Submarine Programme.
The work within our dynamic, customer facing Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team includes the provision of independent nuclear safety and technical advice in support of both in-service and future designs of Naval Reactor Plant (NRP), delivering services to meet the MoD's requirements for the UK's future submarine programme.
This work requires detailed knowledge of the design and operation of NRP, safety case development and methodologies, the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme and the ability to communicate with MoD personnel, and their stakeholders, at all levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Provision of authoritative Advice, Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) and Independent Technical Assessment (ITA) in support of NRP
- Conducting work according to the best applicable safety, technical and regulatory standards, consistent with relevant good practice
- Representing INA at meetings with MoD and their contractors
- Co-ordinating output across a range of relevant specialist disciplines, providing MoD with impartial, authoritative, balanced and proportionate assessments and advice
- Conducting all work in accordance with the INA Quality Assurance Programme
- Complying with information security requirements
- Delivering to meet agreed programmes and budgets
Here's What You'll Need:
- Degree or equivalent professional training in science or engineering
- Chartership within an engineering or scientific discipline
- Detailed design knowledge or operational experience of the Naval Reactor Plant through attainment of Naval Nuclear qualifications (eg NSSC, NPWSC or equivalent)
- Excellent consultancy/communication skills and the ability to work directly and effectively with the customer are essential
- Ability to work effectively across a range of tasks and liaise with personnel from multiple technical disciplines
- Enthusiasm and aptitude for clear and concise technical writing is important
- Familiarity with NRPA's NSMA, JSP 518/DSA02-DNSR, or ONR SAPs
