You will be accountable for the holistic development and implementation of the safety case management strategy for Trafalgar, Vanguard, Astute and Dreadnought Class Submarines. The strategy will focus on developing and maintaining Naval Reactor Plant (NRP) safety whilst reducing the overall burden of safety case maintenance. The strategy will also optimise our approach to management of Safety Case Campaigns through focusing on the areas of maximum benefit, pragmatic decision making and embracing new and novel technologies.

It's a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we're all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

You will own, develop and deliver the holistic strategy to deliver PWR 1, 2 & 3 safety cases.

  • Provide strategic direction to the PWR 1, 2 & 3 Safety Work Packages and where applicable supporting technical work packages throughout the Submarines Business. Ensuring that activities comply with all applicable policies and within the Chief Engineer's Terms of Reference.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for strategic safety case matters with external customers and wider Enterprise stakeholders.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the UK MoD to ensure adequate and timely assurance is undertaken for PWR 1,2 & 3 safety cases.
  • Support the appropriately pragmatic and robust resolution of emergent safety issues and the operation of the Safety Management system.
  • Support decision making in the programme teams by providing clear engineering leadership on PWR 1,2 & 3 safety cases.

  • Educated to degree level in engineering or other appropriate technical discipline.
  • Member of a recognised UK engineering institution.
  • Previous experience of strategy development and leading diverse engineering teams to deliver against this strategy.
  • Excellent communicator with proven record on employee engagement and stakeholder management.
  • Advocate for simplification, improvement, and the engineering change programme.
  • Understanding of product safety management processes.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don't currently already have this in place.
