The School of Law seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Welfare Rights / Social Justice who will manage the development and delivery of high-quality social change legal education in the School of Law for undergraduate and postgraduate students. The successful candidate will ensure the effective set up and day-to-day management of a welfare rights clinic in the Glasgow Open Justice Centre, supervise students working on legal casework and will enhance the student experience by working collaboratively with academic and professional services staff to embed wide ranging experiential learning opportunities in all degree programmes.

The School of Law is ranked 43rd amongst law schools globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. It is a centre for innovative world leading research and excellence in education. We are proud to be an international law school with a rich heritage. Law was one of the four original faculties established by the University upon its founding in 1451. The subject has been taught continuously since 1714. Today, we teach students from over 30 countries with a staff from across the world.

The mission of the recently established GO Justice Centre is to drive social change through legal education and research. We aim to empower communities and individuals to use the law to access justice and achieve social and economic inclusion. We do this by raising awareness of social justice issues, identifying and addressing unmet legal needs while instilling core ethical values in our students. The Lecturer in Welfare Rights / Social Justice will work as part of the GO Justice team to expand client facing casework opportunities for students in areas relevant to welfare rights (e.g. housing, welfare benefits or community care / social care).

Closing Date: 27 June 2024

We believe that we can only reach our full potential through the talents of all. Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our values. Applications are particularly welcome from across our communities and in particular people from the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) community, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented within the University.
