We are working with a market leader in the highways industry looking to recruit an enthusiastic and talented Assistant Engineer to join our Development Management team, working on the Essex Highways Integrated Services contract.
The key purpose of the role is to apply your skills to lead and undertake Technical Assurance of developer-designed schemes, providing a first-class service delivering the planned works and ensuring that the challenges of delivering the vision and priorities of the County Council/Essex Highways are met.
The Role;
- Ensure design and construction of developer’s highway infrastructure works (both new highway and improvements to the existing highway) are acceptable to the Highway Authority for adoption as public highway and maintainable at the public expense.
For all highway works associated with new developments:
- Assist the Highway Authority with consultations with the Local Planning Authority for proposed developments.
- Agree detailed designs and ensure planning permission conditions/obligations are met
- Attend/ Chair Meetings
- Answer site queries / design queries in a timely manner
- Extensive stakeholder liaison (both internal and external)
- Ensure statutory processes are followed as required if necessary
- Learn how to instruct the legal agreements to enable developers infrastructure works to be adopted as public highway
- Provide timely and accurate advice to County Councillors, District Members, Parish Councils and the general public on all highway-related matters as required.
- Provide assistance to the Senior Engineer in relation to all aspects covered within the group.
About You;
- Degree, HNC, or equivalent qualification, or experience in highways.
- Some knowledge of and/or experience in, managing the design and implementation of the highway aspects for proposed housing developments including statutory processes involved with these activities.
- Being able to demonstrate good project management experience
- Some knowledge of national guidance, legislation and regulations relating to design and implementation of highway schemes. In particular an appreciation of the Highway Act 1980 and CDM 2015 is required
- An awareness of Health and Safety legislation
- Conversant with Microsoft applications – Word, Excel and Power Point
- Full driving licence is desirable as a proportion of the role will involve visits to developer sites for surveys, meetings and inspections.
