The Role
As a Technical Specialist, you will be part of a team that is working to deliver airspace modernisation, a key initiative that aims to improve the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of air traffic operations. You will be responsible for conducting research, analysis, and modelling of airspace scenarios, developing, and testing technical specifications and standards, and providing technical support and guidance to the Airspace Modernisation Delivery Team and stakeholders. You will play a part in engaging with external suppliers and stakeholders.
This is a hands-on position which will rely on you having excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, as well as a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
You will support the technical development of policies on the use of Electronic Conspicuity (EC) devices in UK Airspace ensuring the project deliverables are technically sound, achievable, and implementable. You will provide technical assurance and guidance to the rest of the Delivery Team and external stakeholders as required. You will engage with the wider CAA to ensure that internal stakeholders’ needs are met by the studies and strategic direction of the Airspace Modernisation Delivery Team
About You
Ideally, you will have an Engineer, with some aviation or aerospace experience. You will be a proactive thinker with the ability to work collaboratively and have excellent communication skills. You will be comfortable with supporting others to ensure we delivery of our commitments to the aviation industry.
Essential Skills:
- A good knowledge of operational practices in the UK aviation industry.
- Ssound knowledge of the UK Airspace structures.
- Have an engineering related background.
- Be comfortable operating in the unknown, able to constructively challenge current thinking, present options in a way that facilitates decision making.
- Able to rapidly establish personal credibility with technical specialists and develop constructive relationships.
- Have effective communication and negotiating skills both written and oral with the ability to engage with contacts at all levels throughout the CAA and externally.
- Possess good organisational skills, high levels of commitment, reliability and flexibility, and be an excellent team worker with sound interpersonal skills.
- Possess good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplined team.
- Have experience of MS Office packages specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
Desirable
- Understand the operation of modern surveillance technologies, in particular, the range of Electronic Conspicuity devices in use in the UK today.
- Have an understanding of key legislative factors influencing and determining the CAA’s role as an airspace regulator e.g. the Civil Aviation Act, Air Navigation Order, Rules of the Air Regulations, European legislation, EUROCONTROL Convention and Permanent Commission Directives, and the appropriate MAA Regulatory Publications.
- Have knowledge of the UK Airspace Modernisation Strategy (AMS)
