Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a temporary full-time appointment to the Manchester Museum’s Conservation team. We are seeking an assistant preventive conservator to provide support and expertise across a range of preventive conservation activities in Manchester.


This role sits within the Conservation and Collection Care team, reporting to the Collections Care Manager. The Assistant Preventive Conservator will play a central role in supporting the Museum’s exhibition programme and the ongoing care of a large and diverse collection. They should have a good working knowledge of preventive conservation, including environmental monitoring, integrated pest management, handling, storage, and display needs of museum collections.


You will apply professional knowledge and judgement to support the effective delivery of preventive conservation work programmes and deliver IPM awareness training. You will have strong analytical skills to interpret and present conclusions from complex data. This is a highly collaborative role with a wide reach across the organization and as an effective communicator, you will build productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the museum and externally.

Please note, under the new immigration rules this role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route of the Points Based System.  Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK in order to be eligible to take up the post.
