Job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.
The shift pattern is Monday-Friday (37.5 hours).
This is a Fixed Term post for 12 months initially.
This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Gender Service. The post holder will join a highly specialist Clinical Psychology and multidisciplinary team based within the Gender Service at the Sandyford Initiative in the West End of Glasgow. This is available for both fixed term post/secondment.
The Gender Service at the Sandyford offers a comprehensive service available to young people who are uncomfortable or uncertain about their gender identity or expression, and adult transgender and non-binary people who are considering feminising or masculinising treatment. The service primarily assists people who are transgender to facilitate medical and surgical treatments, enabling greater comfort in the face of gender non-conformity. Psychologists working with the Gender Service are part of an exciting and dynamic multidisciplinary team. Clinicians provide highly specialist assessment and intervention to service users across Scotland and provide consultation and training to NHS colleagues and external organisations.
The Gender Service is undergoing significant service development due to a marked increase in demand for the service over the past 10 years. We are looking for enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist/s who will make a significant contribution to service development initiatives within the service. Under the supervision of a professional clinical psychologist, they will take the lead in an important service development initiative to manage and remodel waiting list processes and procedures. This will involve direct patient contact as well as collection, analysis and interpretation of data.
This post holder will provide support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the Gender Service providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. You will also assist in clinically-related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work. There are also opportunities for peer supervision.
This post holder will operate within the network of psychologists in Acute Psychology and CAMHS in Greater Glasgow and Clyde with opportunity for shadowing psychologists in other parts of the service and accessing continuing professional development. There are also strong links with the Glasgow University Doctorate in Clinical Psychology course.
Applicants will have an honours degree in Psychology at 2:1 or above and preferably prior relevant NHS or social care experience and experience of working with people with mental health difficulties and their families/care.
