Job Description
We have a fantastic opportunity for an Assistant Employers Agent/Quantity Surveyor to join our Brighton/Kent team. This role plays a crucial part in delivering affordable housing, which forms the core of our business. Therefore, experience working with Housing Associations and Local Authorities is desirable. Given the diverse portfolio of projects, this role offers engagement across a broad spectrum of the construction sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting Associates and Partners as directed.
- Preparing budget estimates, cost plans, and cost checking procedures.
- Creating tender documents.
- Reviewing and evaluating tender returns.
- Preparing Tender Reports and Value for Money (VFM) statements.
- Creating Employer's Requirements/Schedules of Works.
- Preparing Contract Documents and associated supporting documentation.
- Chairing and minute-taking at monthly project review meetings.
- Reviewing monthly Contractor valuation applications.
- Preparing Payment Notices and Certificates in accordance with the relevant contract.
- Reviewing and agreeing variations.
- Maintaining financial summaries for each project.
- Liaising with Clients and Contractors, assisting with cost and contract-related issues.
- Preparing Final Accounts.
- Assisting Principal Designers in connection with Health & Safety Files, as directed.
This list is not exhaustive, and the Assistant Surveyor will receive guidance and supervision from a Partner as necessary. This is a full-time role (37.5 hours per week).
Qualifications
- Extensive experience as an Employers Agent, including a senior role.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation, including JCT and NEC suite of contracts.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Architecture, Surveying, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering).
- Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g., RICS, CIOB, or ICE).
- Excellent attention to detail and experience in managing teams and junior staff.
- Strong IT skills, including experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project or Primavera).
- Experience working in the construction industry, including on construction sites.
About You
The ideal candidate will be enrolled or have completed an RICS-accredited degree course (QS) and is seeking follow-on experience, leading to APC (QS Pathway) for pre- and post-contract duties, primarily providing Employers Agent/Quantity Surveyor services on residential new build and refurbishment projects. Good oral and written communication and organizational skills are expected, along with computer literacy in Microsoft applications and other software. Candidates based in the Brighton/Kent area are preferred. Due to the role's nature, access to transport for work purposes is essential.
