Job description

With a love for the great outdoors, you’ll enjoy working with nature and want to inspire and motivate others. You’ll help to make habitats for wildlife better and make everyone feel welcome at our places.

This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the important work we’re doing. As part of the Ranger team, you’ll need to think about our impact on the environment and how you can help.

Due to the nature of the role and the size of the property, a full UK driving license (or equivalent) is essential.

Some weekend and bank holiday working will be expected within this role.

What it's like to work here:You'll be based within the Cliveden estate on the banks of the River Thames in Buckinghamshire. The estate cover 384 acres of grade 1 listed gardens, ancient woodlands and almost 2 miles of river frontage with a network of footpaths throughout. The Cliveden house is run as a 5 star hotel with many who come and stay. The Cliveden estate welcomes over 500,000 visitors a year to enjoy the beautiful gardens, explore the woodlands and admire the fantastic views across the Thames valley. You'll help manage the ancient woodlands which provide a great bluebell display during the spring as well as the Round Garden Orchard for biodiversity.

You’ll report to the Area Ranger and be part of a countryside team of 5 supported by our great volunteer groups. Our portfolio also consists of the Maidenhead and Cookham commons which makes up almost 900 acres of common land in the local area.

Investing in you

We want you to learn, discover and develop your career. And we’ll do everything we can to offer you task based training, opportunities, and the support that you need to achieve your goals. We’ll work with you to help plan your development in a way that’s right for your needs.

What you'll be doing:Assistant Ranger is a very practical role, working mostly outdoors, and you’ll undertake a variety of tasks covering countryside maintenance, along with visitor management. This will include nature conservation working to make habitats better for wildlife, waste management, maintaining essential infrastructure such as fences and gates, site safety inspections, routine grounds maintenance, supporting volunteers, engaging with visitors and helping to deliver activities that strengthen people’s connections with the outdoors.

As no two days are the same, the nature of the role means a flexible approach is crucial to ensure the right level of support is given across the site. So, whether you’re maintaining our green spaces or talking to people, you’ll inspire others to love our beautiful places as much as you do.

Who we're looking forWe’d love to hear from you if you are:
  • able to demonstrate practical experience in land, conservation and access management to level 2 or have 6 months vocational experience
  • willing to work outside in all weathers and deliver tasks when the weather conditions aren’t ideal
