Job description

Role: Assistant Residential Worker

Salary: £11.72 an hour+ £50 sleep over allowance per shift if undertaken

Contract/Hours: CASUAL

With a casual post, there is flexibility to choose when you work, around your study, family, retirement, or home life!

You'll be working on a 24/7 shift rota basis including weekends, evenings, and sleep-ins (additional allowance paid). Shift times are 10.00 – 23.00 and 0700 – 10.30. Sleepovers are 23.00 – 07.00.

Location: Elgin and Buckie - Moray

About the Role:

Action for Children's Moray services, provide quality residential care for up to 8 young people across Moray aged 11 – 18 years who cannot live at home and who are not yet able to live independently. We provide a safe and nurturing environment across 2 different locations in Moray (Elgin and Buckie). Our Residential Workers undertake daily household tasks to maintain our home, promote and support young people's hobbies and special interests, participate in activities with young people and administer medication (when required). It is also essential that you have a sense of adventure and a great sense of humour. After all, work should be fun.

We support Children and Young People who can, at times, present with behaviours that can be challenging, alongside having a range of complex needs. This means that the people we are looking for must be emotionally resilient enough to remain calm and compassionate at the times when it's needed most. We never said this job was easy, but it is incredibly rewarding, and you have the chance to make a real difference to someone's life.

As an Assistant Residential Worker (Casual) You'll be working on a 24/7 shift rota basis including weekends, evenings and sleep-ins (including bank holidays and the festive season).


You will make a difference by:

  • Having the ability to work flexibly, sometimes at short notice.
  • Demonstrating the ability to cope well under pressure.
  • Building strong relationships with the young people you are working with.
  • Promoting a fun but safe environment, where young people can thrive.
  • Advocating on behalf of the children and young people.
  • Becoming part of the staff team and providing support for young people during their stay.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team.

You will need:

  • SVQ Level 3 in children and young people and a HNC in social care or the willingness to work towards this.
  • Experience of working with children, young people and families.
  • Knowledge of child development and attachment.
  • To be able to effectively and safely deal with children and young people with challenging behaviour.
  • Good knowledge of Safeguarding and keeping young people safe.
  • To be SSSC registered.
  • Flexibility to work in a 24-hour manned home.
