Shirley Infant and Shirley Junior Schools are both three-form entry schools that share a single site in Southampton. We are seeking a practical and enthusiastic Assistant Site Manager to join our team in a part-time capacity, supporting our Site Manager in providing a clean, safe and well-maintained learning environment for our pupils and staff. Our ideal candidate will have experience of general maintenance tasks, cleaning and/or ground maintenance, and be able to cope with the demands of a busy school site. The successful candidate will take pride in the schools, have high standards and be proactive. The ability to work independently and prioritise their working day will also be important. Working hours are negotiable, but preferably the successful candidate will be available either from 6:30-10:30am or 2:30-6:30pm during term time, with flexible hours over the school holidays.
The school can offer the right candidate the support and training to develop their skills and progress their career as a school site professional.
The Assistant Site Manager will work with the school team and support the Site Manager in the following:
- Ensuring that the site is clean, tidy and attractive in order to minimise risks to the health and safety of those using the school site and helping to provide an environment suited to learning
- Undertaking a range of minor repairs, maintenance, decorating, moving and lifting heavy objects, sweeping playgrounds and a variety of outdoor work in all weathers
- Having key holder responsibility and being prepared to attend out of normal working hours if required in an emergency
- Keeping statutory and preventative records of maintenance programmes of work
- Undertaking emergency and planned maintenance and repairs within your capability and liaising with contractors if required
- Monitoring contractors on site, ensuring that all health and safety requirements are met
- Undertaking routine inspections of the site including daily maintenance checks and maintaining all necessary records, such as the online ticket system
- Liaising with and managing access for community hirers

- Is self-motivated, pro-active and able to work independently
- Manages their own workload, with good organisational skills
- Can manage the physically demands of the role
- Has experience of maintenance and/or cleaning roles
- Is flexible and adaptable
- Supports of the aims and values of the schools
- Is willing to undergo training as required
- Has a clean and current driving licence (desirable, not essential)
