The Council's Communities Service is committed to promoting a prosperous, sustainable, and inclusive economy by balancing new development with the need to protect and enhance Perth and Kinross’s world class built and natural environment. This will be achieved in a manner that provides an open, customer focussed service, while achieving a high level of performance. The Council wishes to appoint a Building Standards Assistant Surveyor to work as part of a team of highly motivated and professional staff. The postholder will primarily be responsible for all aspects of Building Standards including: inspection of construction work; and the inspection and actioning of enforcement in the event of dangerous and defective buildings, in liaison with their Team Leader, all to meet the expectations of Key Performance Outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high performing team in Building Standards. Staff looking to progress in Building Standards are encouraged and supported to gain membership of a professional body (RICS, CABE). The salary is a career grade TAS7/PR8 with progression to PR8 dependent on gaining membership of a relevant professional body.
Candidates must possess either: - A minimum of an HNC in a building construction/ surveying related subject together with significant relevant post qualification experience in the construction industry; or - A degree in a Building Surveying or equivalent related subject together with appropriate post qualification experience in the construction industry or in a Local Government Building Standards environment. Candidates must be capable of inspecting building works and assess them for compliance with the building regulations. This may involve climbing ladders and working at height on scaffolding. Knowledge of construction methods is therefore essential. Knowledge of the Building Standards legislation is desirable. A valid UK driving licence is essential and access to transport when required is desirable. The Council currently operates hybrid working which allows both working from home and in the office. There is an expectation that some time will be spent in the office however, much of the workload will require travel to sites for inspections and meetings.
