Job description

The Surmaster is responsible to the High Master for the leadership and effective day-to-day running of St Paul's Senior School. In many schools, the role of Surmaster will carry the title of Senior Deputy Head. The Assistant to Surmaster will provide professional, comprehensive administrative support to the Surmaster and so must be efficient, meticulous and have a real eye for detail. The role is more weighted towards extensive administrative support than traditional PA related duties therefore previous administrative experience in a similar role within the education sector is desired.

Hours: The role is offered as either an all-year-round role or term-time plus an agreed number of weeks during the school holidays. Candidates should make their preference clear in their application. The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday; 8 am to 4.30 pm including one hour for breaks. The seniority of this position means that you are expected to work such hours as are necessary to complete your work. Some flexibility is therefore required to cover some 'out of hours' meetings for example, SPS Executive meetings which run fortnightly from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm approximately.

Further details and an application form can be obtained from the School's website by the vacancies page via the button below.

The closing date for all applications is 9am on Friday 12th January 2024.

Interviews will take place on Friday 19th January 2024.

St Paul's is a selective Independent Day School for boys aged 13-18, occupying a superb 45-acre site on the south bank of the Thames, west of Hammersmith Bridge. St Paul's School excels academically at both A level and GCSE, with some of the highest national scores, but it is the work beyond the curriculum that excites both students and teachers alike.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Our vision is to nurture a generation of Paulines that will make a positive contribution to the world; our three pillars of Scholarship, Opportunity and Character are the foundation of all that we do and we actively focus on five core character traits: Respect, Kindness, Humility, Integrity and Resilience.

We value diversity, equality and inclusion, and are committed to creating an environment where all members of our community can appreciate and benefit from this.

It is our expectation that the values of all applicants align with our values.
