Assistant Underwriter, Casualty  - Bristol

We have a newly created role for an Assistant Underwriter to join our Bristol based Casualty team. In this role you'll be providing support to the underwriting team, partnering with underwriters to deliver on our book of business in accordance with the business plan and within delegated authority. Part of a growing and supportive regional team, this is a great opportunity to build out your underwriting career within a successful, wide ranging book of business working across multiple sectors.

Your Role

  • Support the development of the business plan for the portfolio and ensure delivery of the plan.
  • Contribute and participate in all meetings, to share and develop strategy, knowledge, and best practice.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency.
  • Ensure the recording and measurement of insurance risks, to ensure accuracy and good practice.
  • Establish strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximise influence and achieve business objectives.
  • Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through identifying and implementing appropriate learning and development activities
  • Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
  • Develop knowledge of market dynamics and market cycles to be able to support business performance

About You

  • Experience within the insurance industry whether that be in an underwriting, broking or operations lensed capacity
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
  • Capability to analyse and interpret data
  • Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Any casualty or construction product knowledge would be preferable but this is not required
