The opportunity

The University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) School of Business has a proud history of educating ambitious, responsible, enterprising business leaders on its undergraduate, postgraduate and degree apprenticeship courses. We are on an ambitious course to transform our curriculum and approach to teaching, learning and assessment to deliver outstanding education to all learners.

The role of Associate Dean for Student and Teaching in the Business School is a newly created post arising from the University’s recent restructure. Working with a new Dean, as part of the School Executive Team, you will have the opportunity to shape our new educational offer to our learners, foster a supportive and empowering culture for colleagues, deliver exceptional outcomes to improve student outcome and experience metrics and contribute to the University’s Strategy to 2028.

You will work closely with the PVC Students and Teaching, other Associate Deans and Professional Services colleagues to retain an oversight of the University’s Students and Teaching strategies, contributing to the next TEF. We also will support you to continue your own professional development to ensure that you can pursue your personal scholarly academic aspirations.

We offer a comprehensive range of industry-focused and professionally accredited qualifications designed to meet the needs of current and aspiring business leaders. These range from Foundation Entry, Degree Apprenticeships, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees to PhD and doctoral programmes, and an expanding range of CPD courses spanning the fields of Accounting, International Business, Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Tourism and Hospitality.

About you

The new Associate Dean will possess:

  • a track record of providing strategic and visionary educational leadership, having successfully developed, led and implemented learning, teaching and assessment strategies at scale;
  • an ability to manage School level performance to improve league table rankings and assure regulatory compliance (e.g., B3 conditions, Ofsted);
  • a record of leading successful transformation projects (e.g., curriculum design, classroom, and digital pedagogies, awarding gaps);
  • experience of successful academic and people leadership, developing a supportive culture and pedagogic communities of practice;
  • evidence of personal excellence and international esteem in learning, teaching and assessment and
  • experience of leading, or significantly contributing to, business school accreditations (e.g., AACSB) is highly desirable.
