About the Opportunity
Due to our expanding portfolio and long-term local framework expansion, we have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Associate (Building Services) to join our Midlands multi-disciplinary buildings team in Birmingham. We are looking for a person who is looking to further develop their experience and responsibilities within the Building Services sector within our Birmingham Office portfolio.
As part of our multi-disciplinary design consultancy in Birmingham our Building Services team are involved in a variety of planned and reactive maintenance, refurbishment and new build projects including several multi-million-pound development schemes and framework agreements within the construction industry. These consist of multi-residential high, medium and low-rise infrastructure replacement projects, district heating upgrades, as well as education-based projects including new build schools and student accommodation both design and technical adviser.
The successful candidate will be able to take on the role of technical lead responsible for providing design delivery and discipline integration of projects delivered by the Cities and Places business. Using excellent project experience, technical awareness and communication skills, the candidate will manage projects and supervise other team members to produce designs and associated deliverables for projects that ensure Jacobs maintains the highest technical standards, levels of service and quality.
Key requirements for this role are strong communication skills with a collaborative working and positive, can-do attitude. Regular check-in meetings to review progress, design development and decisions, and to constructively resolve any blockers with project teams will be essential and form part of your day to day work ethic. You will need to be able to work independently and take responsibility for decision-making and output deliverables. Strong design coordination and collaboration skills with the ability to work and assume a key role within multi-disciplinary design teams is also a key aspect of this role.
As a leader in the regional building services design team, the candidate will play a crucial role in the promoting effective working methods, establishing high value technical solutions and engaging with the Jacobs team at all levels.
Here's What You'll Need:
  • A strong technical background in building services design, construction and procurement;
  • Chartered Engineer and member of recognised professional institution (e.g. CIBSE)
  • Relevant experience in the design and specification of mechanical Building Services systems to relevant standards and codes of practice
  • Experience in leading MEP teams through all stages of work winning, design and procurement;
  • Experience and understanding of the multi-disciplinary design processes;
  • Ability to nurture excellent relationships with clients, with an ability to generate business, resolve problems and exceed client expectations
  • Ability in design and delivery of projects to a high quality, from concept to completion
  • Ability to lead or work within a team of engineers and designers
  • Ability to work as part of a team, liaising directly with clients and other design team members
  • Working knowledge of all other Building Services disciplines and good understanding of other buildings disciplines
  • Ability to consider safety in design and develop design solutions to eliminate health and safety risks
  • Ability to research and work on own initiative
  • Experience of cross continental working and ability to travel
