Asylum and Refugee Adviser and Caseworker

Location: Law Centre NI, Westgate House, 2-4 Queen Street, Belfast

Salary: £27,344 - £32,020 + 5% employer pension contribution. Starting salary is dependent on qualification and experience.

Post: 35 hours per week

Job Purpose:

To provide high quality legal advice and casework to people seeking sanctuary in Northern Ireland through different protection routes. To manage a caseload and contribute to building the capacity of the sector as a member of the Migration Justice Team.

MAIN DUTIES

1.1 Give legal advice and assistance to people seeking Asylum and Refugees in Northern Ireland, including through outreach and community-based legal work.

1.2 Identify legal, policy and practice issues arising from legal work.

1.3 Comply with regulations governing legal aid and ensure compliance with all professional standards of the OISC and/or Law Society of Northern Ireland and with Lexcel Quality Standard and keep records to an appropriate standard for management purposes and to comply with professional standards.

1.4 Work with colleagues to build capacity of the sector to support asylum seekers and Refugees in Northern Ireland and represent the Law Centre, as deemed appropriate, with key stakeholders as required.

1.5 Develop and maintain effective relationships with Law Centre members and other external stakeholders to support good service delivery.

1.6 Maintain and continually develop your professional expertise, identifying training and professional development needs, including CPD requirements, in consultation with line manager.

1.7 Act as ambassador for the Law Centre, upholding its public image and its values in your day-to-day work.
