Reporting to the Bodyshop Manager and working as part of a large team, your responsibilities will include:
- Examining and cleaning repaired bodywork and discussing what you need to do to finish it
- Preparing the surface to be painted: cleaning it, buffing and polishing (by hand or using a machine), priming it and masking (covering) the parts not to be painted
- Mixing colours, usually using computerised paint mixing technology, to match the rest of the body colour
- Applying the paint with a spray gun in a smooth and consistent manner
- Buffing and polishing the surface between coats
- Working out estimates of costs and time
- Completing records of materials used
- Keeping up to date with new products and working methods.
Overall you will be able to work under pressure and to strict deadline, carry out duties as detailed on job cards to manufacturer and company standards, use initiative and have the ability to prioritise workload to meet delivery times and customers’ expectations, be able to work independently but liaise effectively with colleagues and support others by multi-tasking during busy periods. A UK driving licence with minimal points is essential at this stage.
