We have a fantastic opportunity to join the Northumbria Recovery College on a part-time basis. You will champion the insight and strengths of people with lived experience and their families/support systems by looking at the appropriateness and culture of inpatient settings through the eyes of a person with lived experience.
You will support the LD/Autism Coordinator and/or Northumberland Safeguarding team to:
- Capture the voice of those using the services
- Embed the perspective of lived experience within the inspection process
- Provide feedback to individuals on actions where appropriate by written report or conversation.
Your role will support the LD/Autism Coordinator and/or Northumberland Safeguarding team to identify areas for improvement and influence positive change within inpatient settings; creating a high quality experience for individuals with autism or learning disabilities and their families/carers.
What you’ll do
- Demonstrate empathy, care, and concern to people who are using the in-patient services.
- Support inspections, carrying out an approved assessment that has been formally agreed by the ICB and Everyturn.
- Capture the voice of service users and their support network
- Build safe and trusted relationships with colleagues, patients and families.
- Observe how the service is delivered.
- Complete a report highlighting key findings and recommendations.
- Work in partnership with others (colleagues, clients, families etc.)
- Know what to do if any safeguarding concerns arise and follow the appropriate referral processes.
- Undertake required training in relation to boundaries, safeguarding, trauma-informed approaches or other training needs as identified by the LD/Autism Coordinator and/or Northumberland Safeguarding team.
- Able to work in environments where physical interventions in the management of violence and aggression may be required.
About you
- Significant experience of using/accessing specialist Mental Health services or supporting a friend/family member to do so.
- Experience in collaborative working.
- Experience in engaging with vulnerable people and ability to work effectively in distressing and challenging circumstances.
- Understanding of challenges and barriers to accessing services.
- Understanding of the effects of stigma and discrimination.
- Understanding of service users’ needs.
- Understanding of the importance of continual quality and service improvement.
- Understanding of Pathways
