We are searching for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 4 Civilian Dental Nurse to join our supportive and friendly team at HMNB Clyde in Helensburgh.

Job description

The successful candidate will provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in Defence Primary Healthcare (DPHC) dental centres, to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

Allowances - in addition to the offered salary this position offers the following allowances:

  • Locational allowance of £3000 (pro-rata for part time)
  • GDC annual fee reimbursement
  • Recruitment and Retention allowance

Person specification

Duties and responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring their surgeries are prepared appropriately for the day’s patients in accordance with current regulations.
  • Reviewing the appointment diary at the start of each planned procedure and ensuring the appropriate instrument sets are selected.
  • Preparing, mixing and handling dental materials in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions; adhering to Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations and Safety Data sheets.
  • Meeting the needs of the patients by monitoring, supporting and reassuring each individual according to their specific needs, providing appropriate advice when required. This may include recognising and interpreting behaviours, especially those associated with anxious patients and dealing with them accordingly.

National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) Certificate or NVQ in Oral Health Care Dental Nursing Level 3

Memberships

General Dental Council (GDC) and able to operate without conditions.
Candidates who hold the qualifications but are not yet registered with the General Dental Council (GDC) are eligible to apply for this vacancy. However, if found successful it is a requirement that you are registered with the GDC prior to starting in the post.

There is no requirement to deploy as this is met by our uniformed personnel, but you will form the continuity of care required by our patients when based at home.
